The global climate is heating up but many cities compound the problem. All the hard, dark surfaces soak up heat all day, releasing it at night (aka the Heat Island Effect.) They also typically use air conditioning which contributes to climate change. Cities are coming up with creative, often ancient practices to keep cool.
Seville in Spain has started naming excessive heat events like we name hurricanes. Last year Heat Wave Yago drove the city to 104F. So they’re experimenting with an ancient underground irrigation method called qanats.

Learn how qanats and wind catchers work with no energy inputs to cool buildings in hostile climates.
